Second Annual Fuse Project Dragon Boat Festival Saturday

Jun 3rd, 2015

The Fuse Project’s 2nd Annual Dragon Boat Festival is set to take place this Saturday, June 6, at the 5 Rivers Delta Resource Center located right off of the Causeway. Admission is free and open to the public.  The festival and the races are scheduled to begin at 8 AM and continue until 4 PM.  The Hampton Inn in downtown Mobile will also be serving as the host hotel and event headquarters.

Dragon boat racing dates back 2,300 years and involves teams racing unique 46-foot long Hong Kong-style boats. Each vessel contains 10 two-person seats and holds up to 22 people (20 rowers, one steerer, and one “drummer”). This year, 40-plus teams will race 250 meters in heats to battle for the title of Grand Champion.

Each team must meet a team donation requirement ($2,000 for community team, $2,250 for a corporate team) in order to compete in Saturday’s race. In last year’s inaugural event, 30 teams of 22 people and 2,500 attendees helped raise $100,000 to go towards local after-school programs and estuary organizations.

About the Fuse Project

The Fuse Project was founded by 8 young professionals from Mobile with a common belief that a big impact on Alabama Gulf Coast area’s children can be created by a small motivated group. The main goal is to support tangible, realistic projects that will benefit local children in both Mobile and Baldwin Counties. The organization supports existing philanthropies with specific project ideas, and also grass-root efforts by motivated members of the Mobile-area communities. Whether it is helping fund an after-school program for under-privileged children or helping a motivated neighborhood revitalize a local park, the Fuse Project is ready to help.  For more info, visit www.fuseproject.org.
