USA Volleyball to Spike Economic Impact in Mobile, AL with the Gulf Coast Regional Championships This Weekend

MOBILE, Ala.- Over 100 teams from the region will head to Mobile this week for the 2016 Gulf Coast Regional Championships Presented by the Mobile sports Authority held at the Arthur R. Outlaw Convention Center. The three-day regional volleyball tournament will start off with the Gulf Coast Collegiate Recruiting Showcase on Friday, April 8, 2016, followed by pool play on Saturday, April 9th, and close with tournament play on Sunday, April 10th.


The teams will be contending for bids to the 2016 USA Volleyball National Championship held in July. The 2016 Gulf Coast Regional Championship Presented by the Mobile Sports Authority will consist of teams from ages 12 & Under through 18 & Under, as well as a Grass Roots Division starting at age five. 

"The Gulf Coast Region is honored to be playing our 2016 Regional Championships in the great city of Mobile. Over 1,200 of our region members reside in the greater Mobile area, an area rich in volleyball history and tradition” said USA Volleyball Gulf Coast Region Commissioner, Philip Bryant. “It is our hope to annually bring our Regional Championship to Mobile. This is our 19th year and our second in Mobile. 110 teams and thousands of parents and fans are set to enjoy this Volleyball Festival weekend at the Convention Center in Downtown Mobile. Regional Champions advance to Indianapolis, IN the first of July to compete in the USA Volleyball's National Championship. The Mobile Sports Authority is a fabulous partner and we embrace their efforts to bring world class events to the greater Mobile area; we are ever so pleased to be one of their events. Finals will play into the afternoon on Sunday with preliminary rounds on Saturday and an elite-athlete showcase on Friday evening. We invite all volleyball enthusiasts to come out and join in the fun with us during the weekend."
