The Mobile Sports Authority Reports Another Strong Year

Mobile, AL – The Mobile Sports Authority (MSA), the sports tourism agency for the City and County of Mobile, reported today the organization attracted, supported, and/or hosted a record 41 sports events during the recently completed FY2025 fiscal year which ran from October 1, 2024-September 30, 2025. As a result of those 41 events, Fiscal Year 2025 generated an estimated $37.6 million for the Mobile area economy (see MSA Scoreboard for a complete breakdown). The 41 sports events for FY2025 set a new annual record for the number of events while the economic impact results were just slightly less than the FY2024 results of $38.1 million which set a new annual economic impact record for the MSA.

Those 41 completed sports events involved 21 different sports, such as, football, basketball, bowling, gymnastics, volleyball, baseball, fast-pitch softball, track & field, rugby, cheer, lacrosse, cornhole, road racing/marathon, golf, wrestling, soccer, tennis, pole vault, auto racing, and even a world turkey-calling championship. As a comparison, over the last five years, the MSA has hosted an average of 36 sports events per year, representing almost a 29% increase over the previous average for the 2012-2020 years (28 average number of events per year then vs. 36 average number of events per year now). As another notable number, 15 of the 41 events held last fiscal year were either first or second-time events for the MSA and 28 of those 41 events were youth-oriented, that is, competitors ranging from ages 4-19. And those youth events typically attract more visitors as more members of the families tend to travel for the youth events.

“As we continue to tell our story to those regional and national sports events’ right holders while showcasing the investments we’re continuing to make in our sports facilities in the Mobile area, the MSA has seen the returns on our hosted sports events continuing to grow as competitions flourish. Much like the trends we’ve been seeing in recent years, we believe that visiting sports events will continue to be an essential and growing part of our future tourism activity, especially as we build out more sports facilities in Mobile County. And we’ve been able to attract/host those quality sports events due to the continued strong support the MSA has received from the Mobile County Commission, Mayor Sandy Stimpson and the Mobile City Council, and a very sports-oriented Board of Trustees,” said Danny Corte, Executive Director of the MSA.

Corte continued, “in total since 2012, the MSA has attracted, hosted, managed, and/or co-managed 433 sporting events, which have provided an estimated $305+ million economic boost for the Mobile area. As we continue to tell our story, the future continues to look bright as we’re constantly engaging sports-event owners about the advantages of coming to play in our beautiful area.”
