ABT Tournament set for Mobile-Tensaw Delta

May 5th, 2015

SARALAND, Ala. – Some of the best anglers from around Alabama and beyond will compete in the Mobile-Tensaw Delta when the region plays host to the 2015 Alabama Bass Trail South Divisional Qualifier Tournament.

As many as 225 teams from throughout Alabama and other states will fish the Mobile-Tensaw River Delta when the tournament kicks off at Live Oak Landing, off Alabama 225 in Baldwin County, on May 30. The Captain’s Meeting will be held the night before in the auditorium of Saraland High School in Mobile County. Saraland is the host city for the event.

The Mobile Sports Authority, Saraland Chamber of Commerce, North Baldwin Chamber of Commerce, Baldwin County Commission, Saraland Chamber of Commerce and Mobile Bay Convention and Visitors Bureau have announced that Mobile and Baldwin counties will host the competition said Danny Corte, executive director of the Mobile Sports Authority.

“We in Mobile County are excited to be joining with Baldwin County to ensure that the 2015 ABT South Division Tournament, and hopefully beyond, stays in the Mobile-Tensaw River Delta area,” Corte said. “These fishing tournaments create a solid positive economic impact for our entire area, so it was important for us to make this happen. The Mobile-Tensaw River Delta is one of the most beautiful fisheries in the country, so we want to make sure that we continue to tell our story to anglers nationwide.”

The Alabama Bass Trail was formed in 2012 as a cooperative effort between Gov. Robert Bentley’s Office, the Alabama Tourism Department, Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources and the Alabama Mountain Lakes Tourist Association.

As the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail has done for that sport, the Bass Trail showcases Alabama’s angling attractions, said Rep. Randy Davis, R-Daphne. Davis, chairman of the Alabama House Hunting and Fishing Committee, said the May ABT tournament will draw hundreds of visitors to the Gulf Coast’s freshwater main attractions – the Mobile-Tensaw River Delta.

Davis said officials and other supporters in Mobile and Baldwin counties have been working for months to bring the tournament to the region. He praised efforts by officials, including Baldwin County Commissioner Tucker Dorsey, Mobile County Commissioner Mercia Ludgood, Saraland Mayor Howard Rubenstein, Jeff Kahn of the Saraland Chamber and the Mobile Sports Authority for their work to bring the event to the area.

The 2015 ABT competition series will feature five tournaments in each of the two divisions, North and South, around Alabama. The top 55 teams in each division will automatically qualify to complete in the ABT state championship tournament in October 2015.
