World Sports League’s Gulf Coast Spring National Championship Tournament Up to Bat This Weekend in Mobile

Apr 14th, 2016

MOBILE, Ala., - For the first time, the World Softball League's (WSL) 2016 Gulf Coast Spring National Championship Tournament will take place this weekend at West Mobile County Park and Medal of Honor Park in Mobile. Play will begin Friday night at 7 p.m. and swing through to the championship games on Sunday afternoon.

The WSL's Gulf Coast Spring National Tournament will be the first WSL Spring National Championship in the Gulf Coast region, being attracted to Mobile by the Mobile Sports Authority with assistance toward Visit Mobile. "The sport of softball in Mobile has a long-standing tradition which is well-known around the U. S.  We have been the host of numerous regional and national softball tournaments over the years, so we want to especially welcome the World Sports League to Mobile for the first time. Our goal is to build this championship event up over the next few years into one of the WSL's larger tournaments," mentioned Danny Corte, Executive Director of the Mobile Sports Authority.

WSL Senior Vice President, Bill Chard added, "I would like to thank Danny Corte of the Mobile Sports Authority, Terri Mosley at West Mobile Park, Linda Wehrle with Visit Mobile, and the City of Mobile Parks & Rec Department, as well as everyone else who has welcomed me and the World Sports League to your great city!  The WSL Spring National Championships in its first year will generate 45 teams with over half coming from out of town. Getting this many adult slow-pitch softball teams in a first-year event in today's game is unprecedented. We fully expect this event to grow to 80 plus teams within 3 years with the support of the City, County, & Sports Authority. We would also like to thank Buzini Sports as the title sponsor for this year's event. The President of the WSL and I look forward to your hospitality and will see everyone this weekend."
