Jul 16th, 2014

The “Happiest 5k on the Planet” is on its way back to Mobile this October with The Kaleidoscope Tour

Mobile, AL – The Mobile Sports Authority announced today The Color Run™, the single largest event series in the nation, will be returning to Mobile on October 11, 2014 with a brand new 2014 event series, The Kaleidoscope Tour.  This year’s event boasts a new staging location in Mardi Gras Park ((located at the corner of Royal and Government Streets) in downtown Mobile and an even more colorful 5K course through the historic streets and neighborhoods of downtown Mobile on which thousands of Color Runners will navigate. The Color Run Mobile event registration website is now open.  The website, www.thecolorrun.com/mobile, allows registrants to easily sign up for the upcoming October race in Mobile.

Since its debut in 2011, The Color Run has more than tripled its growth, hosting more than 170 events in over 30 countries and growing their following to more than 3 million "likes" on Facebook and more than 6 million views on YouTube. The Color Run has been featured on ESPN, MSN News, ABC Nightline, Cosmopolitan Magazine and Wall Street Journal, to name a few.

“The Mobile Sports Authority is very excited to welcome back the ‘Happiest 5K on the Planet’ to Mobile this October,” stated Danny Corte, Executive Director of the Mobile Sports Authority. “With the tremendous success of last year’s event with almost 3,000 runners participating and with the new 2014 Kaleidoscope Tour, I expect another great turnout for the Color Run 5K Mobile along with a fun-filled day of health, wellness, and family activities in downtown in conjunction with the Farmer’s Market and One Fit Mobile.”
In 2014, The Color Run has exploded onto the scene with the brand new “Kaleidoscope Tour”. This year, Color Runners can expect “unique Kaleidoscope attractions on the course, incredible photo ops, and epic Kaleidoscope fun at the Finish Line Festival,” said Callan Graham, Co-Race Director for The Color Run.  Graham continued, “Mobile can expect even more happiness and entertainment and aside from our colorful 5K course, runners can expect a fun-filled warm-up program and activities before the event, and a colorful post-race festival with music, dancing, giveaways, and of course, more color throwing.”

The Mobile Color Run 5K will take place on Saturday, October 11th, 2014 at 8 AM out of Mardi Gras Park in conjunction with two other downtown events celebrating community togetherness and health and wellness. At 9:30 AM, One Fit Mobile’s kick-off celebration will take place in Bienville Square with live music, interactive fitness training demonstrations, and health and fitness educational presentations. October 11, 2014 also marks the much anticipated fall return of the Farmer’s Market in Cathedral Square taking place from 7 AM – 11 AM.

"The Color Run is a different type of run.  Totally noncompetitive, participants run or walk just for fun. No one worries about their finish time - just how much and how many colors they are wearing at the end of 3.1 miles.  It is a great opportunity for folks to come together, share a fun experience, and, hopefully, be encouraged to continue running," said veteran local Co-Race Director, Peggy Olive. “This year, Color Runners will be able to walk, run, or dance their way through a fun-filled, scenic 5K course throughout the oak-shaded, historic neighborhoods of downtown Mobile and then stroll over to Cathedral Square for fresh and local Alabama produce or to Bienville Square for One Fit Mobile’s community kick-start event.”

The Color Run chooses an individual charity which to donate in each city they visit and have raised donations for over 60 local and national charities in the past 3 years. The 2014 Mobile charity partner is the North Mobile YMCA.
