Mobile Challenge of Champions Cross Country Invitational Meet Presented by the Mobile Sports Authority Returns to Mobile

Aug 28th, 2015

MOBILE, AL – The Mobile Sports Authority presents the 23rd annual Mobile Challenge of Champions Cross Country Invitational Meet September 4th – 5th to be held at Mobile’s Langan (Municipal) Park. Featured as one of the Top 25 invitational meets in the country by The Harrier Magazine, it’s expected up to 45 teams will be competing from around the Gulf Coast area.

The spectator-friendly course will welcome the first batch of runners during the Middle School-Freshman Division Friday, September 4th beginning at 4 pm in the park. The two-mile race runners will traverse some of the course’s challenging rises and turns. Awards will be distributed following the close of the day’s competition.

The Open and Invitational Divisions will begin promptly at 8 am Saturday, September 5th. The Open 5k will allow unlimited entries, however only the top five per team will score. The girls’ and boys’ Invitational divisions will begin at 9 am and 9:30 am respectively. Awards will be presented to the top ten individuals, runner-up, and team champion, during an awards presentation later that day.

At the 2014 meet, the girls and boys teams from James Clemens High School (Madison, AL) led the pack, placing first in the Open Division 5k. Starkville and Ocean Springs kicked up dust during the girls’ Invitational 5k resulting in first and second place team finishes. The boy’s division, however, produced a different set of leading competitors with Opelika and Baker dominating the field.

This year’s meet will feature first-time entrants Lusher Charter (New Orleans, LA) and Ascension Catholic School (Donaldson, LA).

Attendance is free and open to the public. For more information on the Mobile Challenge of Champions Cross Country Meet, visit www.mobilechallengeofchampions.net
