Former BayFest 5K Finds A New Home

Sep 21st, 2015

MOBILE, Ala. –The Mobile Sports Authority, through a partnership with the Port City Pacers, announced today the creation of the Mobile Sports Authority 5K and Fun Run/Walk. Previously known as the BayFest 5K and Fun Run, the race is scheduled for this Saturday, September 26th, which was the same scheduled date for the former BayFest 5K.  Runners will take their marks at 8 AM in downtown Mobile’s Bienville Square.

Following the news of the BayFest cancellation, the Mobile Sports Authority and Port City Pacers quickly united to rescue the BayFest 5K and Fun Run/Walk. “Once we realized the cancellation of BayFest itself would also cause the cancellation of the popular BayFest 5K, we felt that as the sports event leader of the Mobile area, we needed to do something to continue the race. So we joined forces with the Port City Pacers to ensure that this fun event would continue,” said Danny Corte, Mobile Sports Authority Executive Director.

Ronny Brown, the President of the Port City Pacers added, "recognizing the void created in the local race schedule by the cancellation of the BayFest 5K, members of the Port City Pacers wanted to do something to fill that hole.  Thanks to the Mobile Sports Authority's willingness to help, the PCP is organizing the Mobile Sports Authority 5K and Fun Run. We encourage Mobilians of all ages and abilities to come out and participate in the MSA 5K and Fun Run – both walkers and runners are welcome."

The 1-Mile Fun Run begins at 9 AM. Participants may pre-register online or in person. Registrations will also be accepted at McCoy Outdoor, Run-N-Tri, Fleet Feet and Running Wild. In addition to tough competition, fluids will also be provided along this certified 5K course. Awards will be presented to the top male and female in several categories including Overall, Masters, Grandmasters, Senior Grandmasters and Race Walkers.
