The December regional tournament is slated to return for its second year to Mobile on Saturday, December 10th, 2016. From there, qualifying teams will move on to compete at Disney 3v3 Soccer World Championships held in Orlando, FL in January 2017 at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.

“Mobile United is thrilled to have the Mobile Sports Authority join us in hosting the 2nd Annual Port City Shootout.  Last year we had over 60 teams from Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida.  The success of this tournament, as well as the Regional 3v3 last winter shows the support soccer has not only locally, but also throughout the region,” mentioned Wayne Etheridge, the President of Mobile United FC. “There is still time to register, so you can go to mobileunitedfc.com and learn more about the Port City Shootout 3v3!  Don't forget, we will be hosting the Azalea City Cup this August, which is a full-sided tournament, and we've already been contacted by clubs as far away as Texas.  We will be splitting the tournament into multiple locations due to space constraints, but once the Soccer Complex is completed, everything will be centralized and the tournaments can get huge.  Mobile United plans to host an international tournament once the complex is built.”

Danny Corte, Executive Director of the Mobile Sports Authority added, “With the continued growth of soccer in our area, we are excited to be partnering up with Mobile United to be co-hosting the 2016 Port City Shootout.  These 3v3 tournaments are fast-paced and fun to watch. We also look forward to co-hosting the 3v3 Live Regional Tournament in December with Mobile United.”

Based out of Utah, 3v3 Live has existed since 1996 and is a major soccer tour in the United States with tournaments being played all over the country. Each team may only have three players on the field at a time and is commonly referred to as a “small-sided” game played on a field smaller than a regulation soccer pitch. With fewer players on the field, each player has more opportunities to touch the ball, using and improving their soccer skills. Small-sided games can develop player’s decision-making, technical attributes, tactical knowledge and physical conditioning through functional movements. For more info, visit www.3v3live.com.
