USA Volleyball Gulf Coast Region Championships Comes to Mobile

MOBILE, Ala., - The USA Volleyball 2015 Gulf Coast Region Championships presented by the Mobile Sports Authority is set to take place this weekend, April 11-12, at the Arthur R. Outlaw Convention Center in downtown Mobile. The event’s move to Mobile was made possible through a unified effort led by the Mobile Sports Authority in conjunction with the Mobile Storm Volleyball Club and the Mobile Bay CVB.  

The regional tournament will have teams compete for a bid to the USA Volleyball Girls’ Junior National Championships to be held June 23-July 2 in New Orleans. The age groups range from 12-18 and teams entering the tournament participate in the Gulf Coast Region, coming to Mobile from Panama City, Fla., Hattiesburg, Miss., and all cities in between. The championship is expected to bring 75 or more teams into the city with the majority of those being from outside the area.  

Competition is slated to start at 8 a.m. CDT Saturday with pool play. Bracket play kicks off at 8 a.m. CDT Sunday and will conclude later that day with championship matches in seven different age groups. All matches will be played in both the North and South Exhibit Halls of the Outlaw Convention Center. Admission is $5 for adults and free for anyone 17 and under.  

Also happening this weekend is a recruiting showcase for girls in grades 8th-12th on Friday evening. Throughout both Saturday and Sunday, a handful of Volley Tots clinics will take place on a scaled down court which will be set up in the North Exhibit Hall. The sessions will be for all children ages 5-8.

About The Mobile Storm

The Mobile Storm is a regional club based in Mobile, Ala., that offers training for volleyball players from the developmental level to the elite player, ages 5-18. The focus is on individual skill development and competitive team tournament schedules as well as offering guidance in the recruiting process.
