The Biggest Loser Runwalk Announces Inaugural Alabama Race

Season 14’s At-home Winner Gina McDonald to headline half marathon/5k
Mobile, AL, December 3, 2013 – The Biggest Loser RunWalk will be hosting the inaugural Half Marathon/5K, and a 1 Mile Kids Fun Run in Mobile, Alabama on February 9, 2014 featuring Alabama native and “The Biggest Loser’s” season 14 at-home winner Gina McDonald. From the first-time walker to the avid runner, participants are encouraged to get off the couch and hit the pavement in the Heart of Dixie.
The Biggest Loser RunWalk not only wants to thank the Mobile Sports Authority for reaching out to showcase the Mobile area, but also for helping to coordinate the details for the race weekend.
“The Mobile Sports Authority (MSA) and Mobile, Alabama is honored to have been selected as one of only a handful of cities nationally to host The Biggest Loser Run/Walk, a premier fitness event that is highly regarded as one that empowers individuals to lead healthy and active lifestyles,” states Danny Corte, Executive Director of the Mobile Sports Authority. “We in Mobile are thrilled to have the opportunity to host The Biggest Loser Run/Walk which strives to provide individuals with an atmosphere that uplifts, encourages, and celebrates them as they move toward their personal health and fitness goals.”
Dan and Jackie Evans, organizers of The Biggest Loser RunWalk and season 5 contestants, offer the RunWalk as a non-intimidating environment for all participants, with a longer course time limit to complete the race. The Biggest Loser RunWalk is known for its perks such as a chance for fans to meet past contestants of “The Biggest Loser,” an exclusive Biggest Loser running shirt, finisher’s medal, free downloadable race photos and much more. The half marathon and 5K are chip-timed for participants tracking personal goals with special awards given to the top runners and walkers.
“The Biggest Loser Run/Walk will offer the opportunity for folks to compete in half marathon or 5K events, meet national celebrities, see Mobile from a different perspective, and generally have fun,” says local race director Peggy Olive.
The race will take place rain or shine, starting at 8 a.m. for the half marathon and 8:30 a.m. for the 5K in downtown Mobile. McDonald will be present at the start line to help kick the race off in hopes to inspire others to be healthy and fit. She was the at-home winner of Season 14’s “The Biggest Loser” with a total weight loss of 113 pounds.
This event will also include a kids’ one-mile fun run for ages 4-12 beginning at noon. After the race, participants, family and friends can celebrate and relax at the post-race concert featuring former “The Biggest Loser” contestant and Nashville recording artist, Dan Evans.
