Mobile to Host the AHSAA 2014 South Sectional Swim Championship

Nov 21st, 2014

MOBILE, Ala. – Mobile is set to host the 2014 AHSAA South Sectional Swimming and Diving Championship, Nov. 21-22, at the Fredericka G. Evans Cultural Centre on the campus of Bishop State Community College. In conjunction with the Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA), the two-day, first-time event was made possible through the efforts of the Mobile Sports Authority (MSA), the City of Mobile Swim Association (CMSA) and Bishop State Community College.

While swimming and diving have been AHSAA-sanctioned sports since 1960 for boys and 1963 for girls, this year’s South Sectional Championship Meet will be a first-time event for the AHSAA. It is also the first year the AHSAA has divided the state into three sections with the three meets serving as qualifiers for the main state championship meet to be held in Auburn next month.

The inaugural South Sectional Championship in Mobile will bring in the state’s second-largest contingency of the three sectional meets, behind the North Sectional, with 215 athletes coming in from high schools located mainly south of the Montgomery area. The two other sectional meets will be held in Birmingham and Huntsville, also on this same weekend.  Traveling with the athletes will be their coaches, families, friends and other supporters.

Prelims for all swimmers kicks off Friday at 5 p.m. CT with the finals set to start at 11:30 a.m. CT Saturday. The diving competition is slated for Saturday morning at 9:05 a.m. CT. For more information, visit www.AHSAA.com
