Mobile Sports Authority Presents a Weekend on and in the Water

Nov 16, 2015

The Mobile Sports Authority announced today that two water-based sporting events will take place this weekend in Mobile County.  Those events are the 2015 Fishers of Men (FOM) Southeast Region District 1 Bass-Fishing Championship and the 2015 Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA) South Sectional Swimming and Diving Championship Meet. The Fishers of Men Championship will be angling in Mobile-area waters November 17th - 21st while the AHSAA South Sectional Swimming and Diving Championship Meet will make waves November 20th - 21st.

Consisting of over 70 anglers plus their accompanying family and friends, the FOM District 1 Division is comprised of teams from Alabama South, Florida Central, Florida North, Florida South as well as Georgia South. This event will be based out of the beautiful and picturesque Mobile County River Delta Marina. The actual competition takes place November 20th – 21st while official practices will run from November 17th – 19th.

“I'm very excited about bringing another Fishers of Men championship tournament to the Mobile area,” stated Bobby Eads (bobeads@fomntt.com), Sr. Vice President of the Fishers of Men National Tournament Trail based out of Chapin, SC. “The last time we were here in the Tensaw Delta, the people who live and work here made us feel like family being welcomed home. The Delta is such a valuable resource for bringing tourism to Mobile and it is great when a community recognizes that.”

Serving as one of the three state sectional swim meets which qualify teams for the 2015 AHSAA State Championship Swimming & Diving Meet in Auburn next month, the South Sectional Swimming and Diving Meet is hosted by the Mobile Sports Authority and will be held at Bishop State Community College in the Fredericka G. Evans Cultural Centre this weekend. The swimming preliminaries will begin Friday, November 20th at 5 pm. Divers will begin ascending their platforms at 9:05 am, Saturday November 21st followed by the swimming finals at 11:30 am. There will be approximately 240 student-athletes competing representing 25 different high schools in the South Sectional which is comprised of high schools located from Montgomery south.  Several local high schools are also expected to represent Mobile County.

"The South Sectional meet is a great opportunity for Mobile to showcase itself as a swimming community,” mentioned Tyler Kerns, (tkerns@stpaulsmobile.net) Meet Director and St. Paul’s Dean of Students & Head Swimming Coach. “Administrators at Bishop State as well as the Mobile Sports Authority have been fully supportive of this endeavor and the City of Mobile Swim Association is excited to run a great meet for our participants. Everyone is looking forward to a successful weekend!"
