Cal Ripken Baseball State Championships Coming to Mobile

A pair of Cal Ripken state baseball tournaments are coming to Mobile, June 26-30. The 12U/70 Alabama State Baseball Tournament will take place at Westside Baseball Park off of Hitt Road, while the 6U Alabama State T-Ball Tournament will be held at Mims Park off of Knollwood Drive.  

Cal Ripken Baseball is a division of the Babe Ruth League that focuses on ages 4-12. There are 12 Cal Ripken districts within the state of Alabama and each district will send one or two teams to its respective age group’s state tournament as each are expecting at least 18 teams to participate bringing approximately 450 young competitors to town plus accompanying family and friends.  

“Baseball has been for decades an important part of the sports fabric of the Mobile area," stated Danny Corte, Executive Director of the Mobile Sports Authority. "The Mobile area has been a very important part of the history of the major league game with MLB Hall-of-Famers such as Henry Aaron, Satchel Paige, Willie McCovey, Billy Williams, and Ozzie Smith being from the area.  We want to welcome all of the young competitors as well as their families and friends to our historic baseball county.”

The champion of each tournament will represent the state of Alabama at the Southwest Regional Tournament. The 6U T-Ball winner will compete in Bryant, Ark., while the 12U/70 winner moves on to Blytheville, Ark. Both tournaments are set to start July 9.  

The 12U/70 teams, a division that features a 50’ pitching distance and 70’ base paths, will kick off competition at 8 a.m. CDT Friday morning, June 26, at Westside Park after holding the Opening Ceremony at Hank Aaron Stadium Thursday night. The 6U T-Ballers start Saturday morning, June 27, at 8 a.m. CDT at Mims Park.
